If it is a dog, then bear in mind that there will be additional things which need to be done to ensure the pet is comfortable. Pet sitting in my home rates may be higher if the animal needs to be walked, for instance.
How long the animal is being looked after for
Generally speaking, a pet sitter is going to be able to command a rate of between $20 and $40 per day for an animal.
Although, at this price, they may need to take on more than one animal to meet the same salary they would have with a ‘normal’ job.
If you are just looking after an animal for a day, you should probably never go over $40 for 8-hours, because most people will find it a bit too expensive.
If you are taking the animal overnight, then you could potentially charge a lot more. Some companies are willing to go over $90 for an overnight animal stay.
If you are taking the animal for a long period e.g. the owner is going on vacation, then you may want to reduce your daily rate to secure the ‘guaranteed’ business.
Potential Clients
If you operate in an area of relatively high wealth, then you may be able to charge a little bit more for your services. Do not go too crazy with the pricing here, but adding a few extra dollars is fine.
Holidays
A lot of people will need pet-sitting services during the holidays. This means that you may be able to charge a little bit more to look after animals during Christmas, Thanksgiving, and maybe during the summer.
As mentioned previously, there is no one price that you should charge. When determining pet sitting in my home rates, you will need to do a bit of trial and error to find out which price generates you the most business.
As you become more experienced in your services, you may be able to push the price up a little bit too. Not much. Just a few dollars, but this will quickly add up.
